E-mails may soon come with #hashtags

An Indian company is betting big on the power of #hashtags, and is preparing to embed them in e-mails to enable users narrow down their search to a particular topic or information.

Jaipur-based Data Xgen Technologies, an enterprise e-mail solution provider, has successfully completed the soft launch of its e-mail service inserted with #hashtags. A commercial launch is slated for the first week of January.

“This is the first time anybody is launching this kind of a feature in e-mails anywhere in the world,” Data Xgen Technologies Founder and CEO Ajay Data claims.

“We are trying to add the power of ‘search’ in an e-mail by adding #hashtags. This makes searching and grouping in an e-mail more efficient and also filtering from any of the folders in an e-mail faster,” Data says.

#Hashtags are generally used to sieve data from public domain or social media sites such as Instagram, Facebook, YouTube and Reddit.

Search in mail

“Search in e-mails can be generally executed only for a folder such as either for ‘Inbox’, ‘Sent’ or ‘Trash’ bins. This service enables searching across all the folders in an e-mail,” Data adds.

#Hashtags can be added either by the sender when shooting off the mails, or by the e-mail user when saving incoming mails.

The service will be available only on the company’s platform XgenPlus, which provides a free e-mail service DataMail.

Following the launch, the company expects to double the number of its e-mail users. XgenPlus, which also provides anti-spam and bulk e-mail services, now has about 20 million users.

Linguistic service

By March, Data Xgen will launch its linguistic e-mail ID service in Japanese and later in Portugese.

In October 2017, the company introduced e-mail IDs in 15 Indian languages and five foreign languages

DataMail, also available as an App, offers voice e-mails and DataRadio.
